The Siberian Husky originated in Siberia by the Chukchi tribe (Siberian nomads) The Chukchi tribe had bred them for thousands of years, they were an intrigul part of their life. The phrase "Three Dog Nite" was the number of dogs it took to keep them warm on a frigid nite. They were fast, and able to travel great distances on a minimal amount of food. The Siberian Husky was a part of their families and regarded with high esteem.

The Siberian Husky was introduced to Alaska in 1908 by a Fur Trader, and word had spread about this mighty dog from Siberia and the races it had won.  The Siberian won many of the "All-Alaska Sweepstakes" races, which increased their popularity in the U.S.  Leonard Seppala is the most reknowned breeder and racer of the Siberian Husky and is a story well worth reading!

There are thousands of links on the web to learn more about the history of this fine arctic breed. Have fun reading and learning. The experience of having a Siberian is not for everyone, but they are definately for me.

A good book for novices and the experienced husky owner
